About Shefford
The old market town of Shefford is surrounded by unspoilt countryside and is situated between Hitchin and Bedford with easy access by road to the M1 and the A1(M). There is a rail station in Arlesey, with a journey time of about an hour to London Kings Cross. Shefford offers a choice of lower, middle and upper schools including the well known Samuel Whitbread Community College. The Queen and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh visited the school in November 2006.

Olivers Court is within walking distance of the picturesque town centre which has a fascinating mix of buildings some dating from the 16th century. There is a good range of local shops for everyday needs and several restaurants including Chinese, Indian and a fish and chip shop. The Brewery Tap public house serves some interesting real ales produced by Shefford’s own microbrewery and The White Swan has a garden on the banks of the River Flit. By Royal consent in the 14th century, Shefford was granted the right to hold a fair at Michaelmas. The tradition continues and every year Shefford becomes a fairground for a day.

In addition to the riverside walks and green spaces in Shefford, the neighbouring village of Henlow has a Champneys Health Resort at Henlow Grange, a gracious Georgian mansion set in 100 acres of peaceful countryside. Hoo Hill Maze is located in Hitchin Road, Shefford and is open to the public throughout the year.

There are a good range of shops for everyday needs in Shefford, with major shopping centres at Bedford, Hitchin, Luton and Stevenage all within an easy drive. For rail travel the nearest station is at Arlesey, just over two and a half miles away. Trains from here travel into Kings Cross with a journey time of from 38 minutes. Air travel is well served by both Luton and Stansted Airports, accessed via the good road links.
